Lightning Rod

Web Morrison was a player.  He would do anything to be a courtroom star.  Thus far, fate had eluded him in that department.  Stuck languishing in the public defender’s office, the only option left to him was to hang out for the interesting case.  What he didn’t realize when he saw the woman being brought through booking, who seemed utterly out of place yet far from being a damsel in distress, was that fate had just dealt him a hand worth betting on in the high stakes game of justice.  He watched as she went through finger print processing, since no one official was around and tried to make out the charges…meanwhile perusing yet another junkie defense collar.

Stand against the wall, please.  Face forward into the camera…

Dana felt humiliated.  This was just so not her.  Vinnie had always been there for her, but now.  Now when she needed him the most, he had turned on her.

Turn to the right, please.  Keep the numbers facing forward.  Chin up…

In the flash of the bulb now capturing her less than glamorous side, she saw her would be saviour…except that she didn’t yet know it.

And neither did Web, but as their eyes met in that flash, he knew that he had to pursue this case.

The processing officer began leading Dana away amidst her protestations.

I know my rights…I know I can talk to an attorney and I want one.  NOW!

Ma’am…we’ll let you call one…oh wait…says here you made your phone call.  Whoopsie!  You are entitled to another in –

Web knew it was now or never….

Hi, I’m Web Morrison…I believe this is my client…

Dana quickly weighed out the options and jumped into the role she was now forced to play.

Yes, yes…oh am I so glad to see you…

The officer was not amused….

I would like to talk with my client…in private!

Yes, I would like to talk to my attorney…now!

The officer led Dana and Web to a room, usually reserved for questioning… a room about to become a lightning rod for fate.
